The Resthaven Western Community Services social group is putting their formidable knitting skills into action, creating more than 200 knitted poppies to distribute to friends on Remembrance Day – and they’re still going!
Coordinator, Rebbecca Bratovich, says, "With this year being somewhat chaotic and challenging, we wanted to spread a little goodwill to our community."
"It was lovely to see so many people get involved with the 'light up your driveway' Anzac Day initiative, and it inspired us to do something similar for Remembrance Day."
"With many of our clients interested in knitting, we came up with the idea of poppy brooches that could be posted out to clients ahead of Remembrance Day."
"We thought this gesture would make us all feel a little more connected."
"The project has taken off, spreading out from the Resthaven Western Community Services social group, to staff and clients from Regency Cottage joining in, then another staff member, her mum, and a friend of a client getting on board."
"I think it just goes to show the power of positivity, and how good news spreads."
"At the time of writing, we have 200 poppies and are still going strong."
"With another month until Remembrance Day, who knows how many we’ll make? Watch this space!"
