Surprises have taken the form of shoeboxes at a local Cairns not-for-profit aged care home - and they’ve resulted in some beaming smiles.
Seniors at Mercy Place Westcourt have received dozens of beautifully wrapped and presented early Christmas gifts from students at Mother of Good Counsel School, from youngsters attending Prep class all the way through to Grade 6.
Charlene Reyes, Service Manager at Mercy Place Westcourt, said it was wonderful to see the residents faces light up as the gift boxes were handed out.
“The school children have brought such joy to our seniors by making these beautiful gift boxes which were a wonderful early Christmas surprise,” says Ms Reyes.
“We are very fortunate to have a really wonderful relationship with the teachers and students at Mother of Good Counsel School, and to see their values in action as they demonstrate their support and care for our elderly residents.
“The children’s gifts really demonstrate the happiness that youngsters can bring to residents in aged care, particularly after the challenging year we have all had with the global pandemic, and we sincerely thank them for showing such compassion and consideration for the seniors in our community.”
Mercy Place Westcourt is currently looking for volunteers to help with a number of activities at the not-for-profit aged care home. For further information, please contact Abby Earl via AEarl@mercy.com.au
