Narrabeen Glades Care Community Officially Opened

Yesterday marked a special milestone as Opal Healthcare celebrated the opening of Stage 1 of Narrabeen Glades Care Community in Sydney's north with a High Tea Housewarming for residents and friends.

This Care Community has been a much loved home to hundreds of people on the Northern Beaches over the past 35+ years. In 2019 Opal commenced a project to expand Narrabeen Glades, with Phase 1 construction of a new building adjacent to the original home.

Residents were delighted to move across into the new building in December last year. With the COVID situation thankfully much improved in NSW, family and friends were invited to celebrate the move.

The Opal team has done a wonderful job in bringing Stage 1 to life. The architecture is perfectly in sympathy with the environment and sets the home elegantly among the soaring glades. Designed to promote a sense of community, it has spacious communal areas and intimate private spaces, beautiful interior furnishings and finishes, and delightful views through trees and treetops.

There are so many activated spaces in the Care Community including a sensory garden, games, billiards, a flower workshop, and a jukebox designed to support meaningful life activities for each resident.

The landscaped courtyard is a tranquil place to relax and enjoy the sunshine, and includes ‘Mary's Garden', which has been replanted in the outside courtyard, honouring a former resident who had created and tended a much-loved garden in the original home. It was a joy to see it coming to life once again, and her daughters who came to the opening high tea were thrilled to see it thriving.

Resident Kath Murphy has lived in our care since 2011, first in an assisted living apartment before moving into the care home which was then known as Seaside. Kath was excited to move into her brand new room which she shares with her friend Milena. "The outlook to the garden is very enjoyable. I especially love having breakfast in the dining room where I feel like I'm on holidays every day!", Kath says. Residents, family, friends, team and the local community can also enjoy barista style coffee at the on-site Treetops Cafe.

Opal worked closely with HCA, their wellness centre partners, to bring to life a state-of-the-art wellness centre and embed it as part of this thriving Care Community.

This Care Community is truly more than a home – it is the foundation upon which Narrabeen Glades will continue to grow and thrive, with love, purpose and belonging at the heart of Opal's care.

Construction is currently well underway on Stage 2 of Narrabeen Glades Care Community, creating a total of 148 residential places available to older Australians living on the Northern Beaches. Opal look forward to opening Stage 2 in early 2022.
