A Night to Remember at Lifeview Willow Wood

on Wednesday, July 28, 2021

Last Thursday, aged care home Lifeview Willow Wood turned its café into a fine dining restaurant as a Magic Moment for the seven couples who live in the home.

Re-named L’amour for the evening, residents were welcomed to the restaurant by staff dressed in black and white uniforms, then treated to a special three-course meal, featuring dishes such as Smoked Salmon and Duck, Frenched Lamb Cutlets and Crème Brulee, prepared just for them by Chef and Hospitality Manager, Stephen Milsted, and accompanied by fine wines.

Every detail was covered from the designed invitations, the menu, corsages for the ladies, and the table settings. The ambiance of the room was one of opulence, which was only heightened by the joy on the residents faces.

It was evident there was love in more than just the name of this pop-up restaurant as the couples, many of whom have spent a lifetime together, sat across from each other with a sparkle in their eyes, that will never fade.

“The excitement began the moment the invitations were handed out,” said Lifeview’s Social Support Manager, Annitta Macauley. “In the lead up to the night the anticipation was building as residents starting planning what to wear.”

“But the true magic of the event appeared as the residents arrived at the restaurant, their eyes lighting up and even some tears of joy were shed.”

“It has been a long time since we have enjoyed a meal together, just us,” resident Helen Bibby explained.

“It was so nice to be able to get all dressed up and have something to look forward to,” said the Bennett’s.

“I haven’t seen my wife’s face light up like that in the longest time,” added fellow resident, Colin Cherry.

“To be able to create this beautiful experience and enable these inspiring couples to continue to make lasting memories together is moving and highlights how rewarding it is to work in aged care,” Macauley added.

Lifeview’s Magic Moments program is set-up to give residents a surprise and the opportunity to do something that is precious to them, this fine dining experience definitely covered both of those.
