mecwacare Acquires Ballan District Health and Care

Not-for-profit aged care and disability services provider mecwacare has announced that it has acquired Ballan District Health and Care, west of Melbourne.

This valuable addition to mecwacare’s business will boost its well-established presence in the South West Region. It will complement a significant residential services portfolio and home care services in the Ballarat, Geelong and Warrnambool regions.

mecwacare will officially commence service provision on Monday 1 November 2021.

Services include:

• Two aged care homes and a retirement living village
• Community health hub featuring a GP clinic, pathology collection centre and allied health and rehabilitation services
• Home care services, home care packages and district nursing
• Opportunity shop
• Centrelink office

mecwacare Chief Executive Michele Lewis said the sale would provide long-term security and financial sustainability for the health service and local Ballan community.

“We are a very experienced organisation that has been caring for Victorians for more than 60 years,” Ms Lewis said. “This is a great outcome for the Ballan community with another not-for-profit organisation providing continuity of care for residents and clients, as well as a continuation of employment and conditions for staff.”

Ms Lewis said the aged care and community health precinct was an integral part of Ballan and mecwacare was committed to developing and growing services in the area – in line with its core values that were deeply embedded in the community. She said she would be working hard with the current owners and staff over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition.

Ballan District Health and Care will continue to manage the health service until November 1, 2021.
