Sod Turning Marks Start of Construction of MercyCare’s New Maddington Residential Aged Care Home

on Thursday, April 7, 2022

MercyCare Chief Executive Officer Anthony Smith joined EMCO Building CEO Ron Keogh at the Maddington site of MercyCare’s new state-of-the-art Residential Aged Care Home on Monday to turn the first sod, which officially signalled the start of construction on the $30 million project.

Located off Maddington Road adjacent to MercyCare’s existing home, the new design is based on the small house model of care which features six small houses spread over two levels which are home-like in appearance with a residential streetscape.

Mr Smith said the new home will provide residents and their families with a sense of connection and belonging in a homely environment.

“This is an exciting project that will provide excellence in aged care to the local community,” Mr Smith said.

“This new home is about creating connection and a strong sense of belonging for residents, and I’m thrilled to see our vision for a vibrant, contemporary campus come to life.

“Our current staff and residents are looking forward to moving into the new home once construction is complete. The project will create additional job opportunities for the local community in the future.”

With a decade of experience in delivering new in builds across the aged care sector, EMCO Building was appointed the builder of choice by MercyCare following a rigorous three-month tender process.

Mr Keogh said EMCO Building is proud to be involved in MercyCare’s innovative project.

“We enjoy building aged care residences as they create a home for people to enjoy for years to come,” he said.

“A project like this is very rewarding as it is more about providing a meaningful end use than constructing a building."

Evidence shows the small house model of care can deliver wellness and memory benefits for residents, as well as encouraging independence.

Once complete, the new home will deliver high quality care to 108 residents, with the first residents expected to move in early 2024.
