Smoking Ceremony Celebrated at Regis Greenbank

on Wednesday, May 11, 2022

Smoking Ceremonies have been performed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for thousands of years to cleanse people and places. Regis Greenbank was honoured to receive a spiritual blessing of the Home and the land it sits on by the Traditional Custodian of the Land, Uncle Sandy.

Uncle Sandy and Uncle Barry are Yugambeh Elders and attended the Home to perform the traditional Smoking Ceremony. These ceremonies encourage good health and wellbeing through connection to culture.

The herbal smoke is believed to have spiritual, emotional, and physical cleansing properties, as well as the ability to ward off bad spirits and make a pathway for a brighter future.

Regis Greenbank residents and employees were proud to be a part of the Smoking Ceremony and were guided by the Uncles.

Regis thanks the Uncles for their Welcome to Country to acknowledge and give consent for events taking place on their Traditional Lands—past, present and emerging.
