Pyjamas Put the Fun Into Fundraising

on Friday, September 30, 2022

Staff and seniors at Mercy Place Cairns (Bethlehem) will spend the day snuggling up in their favourite and most comfortable pyjamas today, all in a bid to help little children with big dreams.

The fun fundraiser was organised on Friday 30 September in support of National Pyjama Day, run by the not-for-profit organisation the Pyjama Foundation, which recruits, screens and trains committed volunteers to make an incredible difference in the lives of children in care.

Mercy Place Cairns (Bethlehem) General Manager Precinct, Zubair Coovadia, said everyone at Mercy Health wanted to help raise funds to help disadvantaged and vulnerable children, while gaining the opportunity to take part in a fun activity which would also bring joy and laughter to residents.

“The Pyjama Foundation does incredible work to improve the learning outcomes of young children in care and we very much wanted to support this fun fundraiser and help to prevent children in the foster care system falling behind their classmates,” he says.

“It really is the perfect excuse to stay in your pyjamas all day while supporting an organisation that helps vulnerable Queensland kids, and all of our residents are very happy to make a donation in return for staying in their comfortable PJs all day.”

The aim of National Pyjama Day is to raise as much money as possible for The Pyjama Foundation’s Love of Learning Program which is offered to children in foster care – Australia’s lowest-performing educational group.  The Foundation’s Love of Learning Program works by matching a community volunteer with a child in the out-of-home care system.
