Employees and seniors at aged care organisation Regis North Fremantle were able to spend the day in their favourite and most comfortable pyjamas recently, all in a bid to help raise funds for children in foster care.
The fun fundraiser also included a host of games and activities associated with childhood sleepovers, including pass the parcel and lucky dips, as well as a sausage sizzle followed by ice cream in cones.
The initiative was organised in support of National Pyjama Day, run by the not-for-profit organisation the Pyjama Foundation, which provides children in foster care with new opportunities to learn important life skills, increase their confidence and improve their educational outcomes.
Maree Thomter Regis North Fremantle General Manager, said the Regis community wanted to raise funds to help disadvantaged and vulnerable children, while gaining the opportunity to take part in a fun activity which would also bring happiness and laughter to residents.
“When we heard about the great work being done by the Pyjama Foundation to prevent vulnerable children in the foster care system falling behind their classmates, we really wanted to help by taking part in National Pyjama Day,” she says.
“The team at Regis, and our residents, loved wearing their pyjamas, dressing gowns, slippers and even ‘onesies’ for the day, and were happy to make a donation to the charity in return. It was a huge amount of fun, and who wouldn’t love the opportunity to wear their comfiest clothes, not just at night-time, but throughout the entire day, particularly on a wet and windy winter’s day.”
The Pyjama Foundation provides children in foster care with the opportunity to gain additional opportunities to learn and gain life skills, to ultimately make a positive, life-long impact in their lives.
The money raised from National Pyjama Day funds educational resources and helps to provide stable, positive relationships to more than 1000 foster children. Organisations can host a Pyjama Day anytime from July through to September.
Regis offers a diverse range of care options including residential aged care, home care, retirement living, day therapy and day respite. Regis is one of the largest providers of aged care in Australia and cares for more than 7,000 residents each year.
