From Estonia to Perth: Hilda's Journey of Success and Independence in Her Own Home

on Friday, May 26, 2023

Hilda, a client of Catholic Homes' home care services, was born on May 11, 1923, in Estonia, a country in Northern Europe. In 1950, she and her husband immigrated to Australia and settled in Perth, where they made their home in the suburbs.

Hilda's life was not confined to being a homemaker during her era. She embarked on a career with the photography company Kodak in Kewdale, where she worked for many years. Starting in the early 1960s, Hilda's dedication and competence led her to eventually oversee the office staff at Kodak. Her colleagues held her in high regard, appreciating her warm personality and exceptional work ethic.

After a fulfilling and prosperous career spanning approximately three decades, Hilda decided it was time to embrace a slower pace of life and retired from the organization at the age of 65. Silvia, Hilda's caregiver, acknowledges that Hilda's utmost desire is to maintain her independence by continuing to live in her own home for as long as possible.

“We would like to share photos of when she was 18 years old and now looking just as beautiful with a big smile at 100,” said Silvia.
