A new hub for aged care accommodation and services in Perth’s northern suburbs has officially opened in Kinross by not-for-profit provider Amana Living. Known as the Kinross Care Community, the $32 million hub consists of a new 96-bed residential care centre and day club called The Lake House. The care community, which will also offer complementary services like transition care, will generate approximately 100 new jobs.
The Kinross Care Community was officially opened by the Archbishop of Perth, The Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO alongside Amana Living Chair Sue Wilson and CEO Stephanie Buckland; Mark Folkard MLA, Local Member for Burns Beach and representative of the Minister for Health, Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA; and the Mayor of Joondalup, Albert Jacob.
Amana Living CEO, Stephanie Buckland said, “The northwest suburbs of Perth are among the fastest growing in Australia and there is an increased demand for specialist aged care accommodation with 18 per cent of the City of Joondalup population over 65."
“The opening of the Kinross Care Community ensures older people can stay in the local area they love, connected to their community, and supported by dedicated staff. Whether it’s permanent accommodation or respite for carers, our team of professionally trained and naturally kind staff are here to provide the care older people need to lead a fulfilling life.”
The Lake House at Kinross Care Community has been designed to improve the quality of life of residents, promote their independence, and support their overall health and wellbeing. Central to its design is a strong link to nature with internal and external courtyards offering natural light and breezes, and expansive outdoor gardens.
The multi-storey building offers accommodation on two floors. The ground floor provides dementia specific care, while the first floor is dedicated to residents who need care in a supportive environment. Dementia design experts have selected colours, objects and artworks to help residents navigate their way around the building, as well as encourage and support their independence.
A wide range of facilities are available including a self-service café, fully furnished physio/gym, private dining rooms, hairdressing salons, a treatment room for wellness therapy, plus consultation rooms for medical and podiatry consultant visits.
Construction of the Kinross Care Community began in March 2021 and concluded in May 2023. The project team was led by Amana Living and consisted of T&Z Architects, PS Structures, Johnstaff, Plan E and DeFiddes Design.
The opening event at Kinross was also attended by local representatives including James Pearson, CEO of the City of Joondalup; Councillor Adrian Hill, North Ward Councillor for Kinross; and Councillor Tom McLean, North Ward Councillor for Kinross. Special guests Kay and Ian Dawson, who recently moved into the Kinross Care Community from Tapping, helped mark the occasion by cutting a cake.
