Arcare Eight Mile Plains resident Ray Ashdown was recently interviewed about his ingenious invention: the Ashdown Pineapple Peeler. Ray invented the Pineapple Peeler in the early seventies, after he noticed his wife struggling to peel pineapples.
He was invited onto the ABC Inventors program in 1972 to share his prototype. It was such a hit that it was patented, manufactured and sold all over the world.
The Queensland Museum’s Social History collections display the prototype for all to see.
Ray Ashdown's innovative spirit didn't stop at the Pineapple Peeler. Over the years, he continued to tinker with various kitchen gadgets, leaving a legacy of creative solutions for common household challenges.
His dedication to making life easier and more efficient has inspired countless inventors and continues to be celebrated at Arcare Eight Mile Plains, where residents often gather to discuss the ingenious creations that Ray Ashdown brought into the world.
