on Monday, November 6, 2023

At the remarkable age of 102, Vera Redman, a long-time resident of Moran Stockton, New South Wales, has a lifetime's worth of stories to share. With an unwavering love for her hometown, a deep sense of community, and a positive outlook on life, Vera's journey is nothing short of inspiring.

Born in Stockton, Vera's life has been closely intertwined with the town's rich history. She proudly states, "I was born in Stockton, married in Stockton, and I am still here!" Vera's unwavering connection to Stockton spans over a century.

For 75 years, Vera and her late husband, Jim, made a charming house on Queen Street their home. Their love story began in their teens when they discovered a shared passion for tennis and dancing. They married at the tender age of 20 and were blessed to celebrate over 50 wonderful years together. This union brought forth two children, Jill and Peter, followed by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and even a great-great-grandchild. Their love story is a testament to a lifetime filled with joy and companionship.

Vera and Jim also cherished their time at the Stockton Bowling Club, where they spent many happy years playing bowls. Vera's dedication led her to become a Patron of the club, a testament to her commitment to her passions.

Beyond her social activities, Vera was a gifted knitter. She created beautiful hand-knitted clothing items, with her baby shawls featuring intricate designs that were cherished by family and friends. She also devoted her skills to crafting 'Hug Me Tight' garments for premature babies, showcasing her compassionate spirit.

Vera's sense of community extended to over 25 years of volunteering at Stockton Westcott, which later became her home. Her involvement included hosting lifestyle activities, morning teas, and providing one-on-one companionship to residents. Her sense of purpose and community involvement helped her transition into aged care with ease, as she moved into Moran Stockton.

Recently, Vera relocated to one of the newly refurbished rooms at Moran Stockton, and she couldn't be happier. She expressed, "I am thrilled with my beautiful new room; I feel like I have won the lottery. I absolutely love it."

Vera's secret to a long and healthy life lies in her lifestyle choices. She's never smoked, avoided alcohol, and maintains a busy, fun-filled life. Even with macular degeneration, Vera continues to participate in lifestyle activities at Moran Stockton and cherishes the many photos of family and friends that adorn her room.

Vera Redman's life is a testament to the power of love, community, and positivity. Her enduring spirit and devotion to Stockton make her a cherished figure in the community, leaving a legacy that will be celebrated for generations to come.
