McKenzie Aged Care has chosen Bolton Clarke as its new owner and operator. This agreement will see Bolton Clarke take over nine residential aged care homes and two retirement villages from McKenzie Aged Care. Additionally, Bolton Clarke will manage eight more homes, significantly expanding its reach.
This acquisition strengthens Bolton Clarke’s presence along Australia’s eastern seaboard, making it one of the largest aged care providers in the country.
Bolton Clarke’s Expanding Reach
Bolton Clarke already supports over 130,000 people through its Home Care programs and across 38 retirement villages. With the addition of McKenzie’s facilities, Bolton Clarke will now operate 87 residential aged care homes.
This acquisition is part of a broader trend for Bolton Clarke, following the purchase of Acacia Living Group and Allity over the past eight years. These mergers, along with ongoing capital works, will increase Bolton Clarke’s residential aged care capacity to 9,633 beds.
Bolton Clarke's new homes include:
Leadership and Vision
Stephen Muggleton, CEO of Bolton Clarke Group, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition after two years of complex negotiations.
“McKenzie Aged Care has a high-performing team, exceptional quality compliance record, and a strong reputation with residents, families, and referrers,” he said.
He added, “Both organisations are grounded in person-centred values with a shared commitment to delivering quality, innovative care services. We have a lot of respect for the way the McKenzie family established and built the company and we’re very conscious of the need to build on their legacy.”
A Positive Transition
The McKenzie family, including Sally McKenzie, Mary Ann McKenzie, Michael Powell, and Rob Hutchison, expressed their confidence in the transition.
“We are delighted that Bolton Clarke Group will be the new owner and custodian of McKenzie Aged Care. We are confident we hand over to an organisation with shared values, goals and ability to deliver quality care to ensure that McKenzie homes remain as a place of choice for people to live and work in for many years to come.”
Commitment to Excellence
Bolton Clarke is part of a select group of aged care providers in Australia offering a full continuum of connected care services and living options. Supported by the Bolton Clarke Research Institute and Altura Learning group, the organisation emphasises best practices, research-based innovation, and strong clinical compliance.
This acquisition marks a significant step in ensuring that quality care and innovative services continue to be delivered to residents and families across Australia.
