Iris Palmington Celebrates 100th Birthday at Mercy Place Fernhill

Mercy Place Fernhill (Sandringham) resident Iris Palmington has celebrated her 100th birthday alongside family, friends and carers this March. Together, they enjoyed Iris’ special milestone which included a special visit from Sandringham’s State Member, Brad Rowswell MP.

Born in Gardenvale, Iris has spent her entire life in Melbourne’s south-east and embraced her passions for ballet, AFL and the local community. Reflecting on the care she receives at Mercy Place Fernhill, Iris said, “I love the honesty and the care they show me, the way they treat me, and the fun we have.”

Since Iris has been in the home, she has enjoyed the compassionate, individualistic care that nurtures faith, respect and belonging at Mercy Place Fernhill. The home offers a vibrant and supportive environment for residents such as Iris, with engaging activities and a strong sense of community.

The celebration for Iris was filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. Iris declared it the best birthday she’s ever had: “I never used to celebrate my birthday when I was young – it took me 100 years to celebrate this way!” 

Member for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell MP joined the festivities, presenting Iris with a gift and congratulating her on her remarkable century. The day was made even more special by heartfelt tributes from her carers, including a touching moment with Rechel, whom Iris thanked for looking after her since day one.

As Iris continues to enjoy life at Mercy Place Fernhill, her warmth, wit, and enduring spirit remain an inspiration to all who know her.
