Residential Aged Care: Need for more Multi-lingual Carers

The Fairfield Champion has reported there is a concern there are not enough aged carers who speak a language other than English in the industry.

Chief Executive of Cardinal Stepinac Village Matt Smolcic said experienced carers who speak the same language as those in aged care should receive working visas.

 

Understanding Aged Care: National Dementia Awareness Week

National Dementia Awareness Week (DAW) will run from 21-28 September with the aim of encouraging Australians to live a ‘brain healthy lifestyle.’

The week will coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September and events will be held all over the country including events in Victoria, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland and the ACT.

 

Aged Care South Australia: New Campaign to Change Aged Care Image

South Australian not-for-profit aged care provider Helping Hand has released a television commercial across South Australia to combat the negative public perception of aged care services.

The campaign aims to give a “less-typical view” of aged care and show the variety of aged care services available today. “Service choices have changed dramatically in the past few years, but the community is often not aware of the range of possibilities – unfortunately we don’t need to look beyond the sector to understand why,” said Helping Hand CEO, Ian Hardy.

 

Aged Care Perth: National LASA Conference this October

The first national LASA Conference (replacing the previous ACAA Congress) is ending early bird registration for the conference between October 28-31 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The forum will discuss the significant change the aged care industry is currently facing, and will provide workshops on media and communications, recent aged care reforms, attracting young people to aged care, current technology and many other topics.
