Respite Care is short term aged care, and often used when families, carers and friends need a break from caring for a frail, elderly person.
It can also be used if an elderly person needs to recover from a stay in hospital and cannot return home immediately.
Respite care can be arranged for one night, a few days or a few weeks depending on the requirements of the elderly person and carer/s.
Respite Care can be provided within the elderly person’s own home, or they can be given a bed in an aged care home for a few days or a few weeks.
Many residential aged care homes also offer short-term respite care.
