Mercy Place Mandurah is celebrating the contribution of Clinical Care Coordinator Yong Jung, whose leadership has helped drive improvements in care outcomes and quality across the home.
Originally from South Korea, Yong came to Australia on a working holiday visa ten years ago. A former maths and physics teacher, he made the bold decision to retrain as a nurse in 2015. After gaining valuable experience in regional Western Australia, he joined Mercy Place Mandurah as a Registered Nurse in 2022.
Within just a year, Yong progressed to the role of Clinical Care Coordinator and stepped up to lead the home during a significant period in late 2024. Since then, he has played a central role in raising clinical care standards, leading to improved performance and outcomes for residents.
His leadership was instrumental in Mercy Place Mandurah’s recent reaccreditation by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, securing full compliance for another three years and earning praise from assessors.
Known for his hands-on approach, Yong is actively involved in day-to-day care and maintains a deep understanding of each resident’s needs. His warm and professional manner fosters trust with families and creates a respectful, supportive environment for staff and residents alike.
“Nursing gives me a deep sense of purpose,” said Mr Jong.
“Supporting residents and their families through challenges, and being there for the everyday moments, is incredibly meaningful. I’m lucky to be part of such a dedicated team here at Mercy Place Mandurah, where we support each other every day to deliver the best care possible.”
Yong’s story is a testament to the value of leadership from the floor, and the impact that committed and compassionate clinical staff can have on aged care outcomes.
