To determine what extent of Home Care is needed, the individual needs to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) which should be free. This assessment will determine the level of Home Care Package needed. 

What is Home Care?

Home Care services can include:

  • gardening and/or social activities
  • medication
  • dressing
  • cleaning and laundry
  • food preparation
  • personal hygiene
  • transport
  • Assistance with oxygen and/or enteral feeding
  • Allied health care
  • Social support
  • Registered nurse care
  • Transport to appointments
  • Personal care

Government Programs

A Home Care Package is a coordinated and flexible package that allows individuals to remain living in the comfort of their own homes. Each Home Care Package is tailored in order to cater for a variety of care needs. 

There are currently four levels of Home Care Packages:

Home Care Packages receive funding from the federal Government, however if you are able to do so, you may be asked to make a contribution towards your Home Care Package costs.

Private Providers and Not-for-Profit Organisations

Not-for-profit organisations may also provide Home Care and therefore with a charitable reduction.

There are also private providers which are sometimes in conjunction with government programs, however hourly rates do apply.

Kickstarting careers in aged care at PresCare Maryborough

A group of Year 10 and 11 students from Riverside Christian College is about to start a school-based traineeship and Certificate III in Individual Support using PresCare’s communities as their living classroom. The seven students will undertake a two-year traineeship, initially making use of the training room, but in time working with the PresCare teams so they gain valuable hands-on experience caring for residents.

Leonie Celebrates 40 Years with Resthaven

Leonie Mules, Enrolled Nurse at Resthaven Port Elliot, is this year marking 40 years of employment with Resthaven. ‘I started at Resthaven Bellevue Heights, on a four-week contract,’ Leonie says. ‘And things just went on from there!’ Leonie was recommended the job by her mother, who was working as a cook at the site.
