What is Home Care?

Home Care can help elderly people by providing part-time services such as housework, meal preparation, health care et cetera. To determine to what extent of Home Care is needed, the individual needs to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT or ACAS in Victoria) which in most cases will be free. They will determine the level of Home Care Package that will be appropriate.

Home Care services can include:

  • cleaning and laundry
  • food preparation
  • personal hygiene
  • dressing
  • transport
  • medication
  • gardening and/or social activities
  • Registered nurse care
  • Allied health care
  • Personal care
  • Transport to appointments
  • Social support
  • Assistance with oxygen and/or enteral feeding
