The Italian Village in St Agnes has 163 residential aged care places, offering 24-hour nursing assistance, personal hygiene assistance, daily living assistance, medication management, continence support and behavioural management. In addition, residents have access to a fine selection of allied health professionals, including occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
Residents are assessed upon arrival to determine a social plan in liaison with family members. This plan is designed to maximise the resident’s wellbeing and lifestyle.
Rooms are mostly single with ensuites, while communal lounges are enjoyed by all residents, family members and friends. Visitors are also welcome to join meals at lunchtime and dinnertime.
Those living with dementia have a special secure unit which caters to 25 people. The building sits adjacent to the gum-lined creek and commissions specially trained nurses and therapy staff to assist with unique care and activity programs.
A partnership with Alzheimer’s Australia SA provides families and carers with the opportunity to engage their amazing Carer’s Support Group and Carer’s Education Group.
The Italian Village hosts many special events throughout the year, from feast days and Christmas family BBQs to Father’s Day and Mother’s Day celebrations. The residents and the community band together during these vibrant occasions, ensuring residents retain their vital sense of belonging and personal worth. It is the Italian Village policy that older people should continue to grow and experience new challenges.
In-house activities include traditional bingo, cards, cooking class, art class, dancing, armchair travel and a la carte dinner parties. Lifestyle coordinators are always searching for innovative new ways to liven up residents’ days.
The Italian Village has maintained the high level of care set by the Aged Care Standards Agency. The home provides services that connect residents to the Italian population, along with many other nationalities who enjoy the good culture and food for which the home is well renowned.
