My husband was in Chestnut gardens for about ten months having been diagnosed with Altizemers. The setting was quite difficult as the nursing home is part of the public system and so has to accept a variety of people including those with long term Mental Health issues. This mixture of people can make for difficulties for those who require a quieter environment. However the majority of staff were both professional and warm, joking with residents and engaging in conversation. My husband had been in four different nursing homes all of which were private but they did not contain as many trained staff as Chestnut Gardens. The food at Chestnut Gardens was of a high quality, containing both fresh vegetables and good deserts. Further the use of cloth table napkins was a more normal adult manner of dining rather than the items such as bibs that other nursing homes have used. My husband is no longer in Chestnut gardens as I had him moved to a smaller nursing home where unfortunately both the food and staff are not as good as he had in Chestnut Gardens
