The achievements of young Victorians in aged care have been formally recognised this year with the Leading Aged Services (LASA) Victoria Young Leader Award.

The Young Leader category was introduced to the LASA Victoria Awards for Excellence to acknowledge the achievements of people under the age of 30 who show outstanding leadership potential within the industry.

The Mayor of Manningham has welcomed the addition of 63 new aged care beds to the north-eastern community of Melbourne.

Cr Jim Grivokostopoulos officially opened the new wing of Japara’s Millward Aged Care last Friday in the presence of local councillors, industry personnel and the staff, residents and families of the 163-bed home.

Piloted with Catholic Homes in 2013 after receiving funding from Health Workforce Australia, the Raise the Bar program gives care staff the training and tools to better manage stable residents with acute care needs, including those entering the end-of-life phase.

Social media start-ups are vying to accommodate the fastest growing proportion of online Australians, baby boomers.

People over the age of 50 accounted for 32% of Australia’s online presence and 20% of its social media use in July 2012, according to the most recent Nielsen poll.
