Wesley Mission Queensland - Cooper House Aged Care Community

930 Gympie Road, Chermside, Queensland, 4032

Part of Wesley Mission Queensland

Wesley Mission Queensland - Cooper House Aged Care Community was named after Mr and Mrs Sam and Lucy Cooper, the first people to make a donation to the vision of Wheller Gardens aged care community some 78 years ago.

A fitting legacy for Cooper House, which prides itself on being a close-knit community with caring staff and volunteers.

Being an ageing in place home, Cooper House staff are able to provide responsive and flexible care in line with each resident’s changing needs. This means that residents are often able to receive further care without having to leave familiar surrounds.

The 58 cosy rooms all have easy access to an expansive outdoor area with beautiful gardens, seating, and a gazebo for entertaining visitors and a children’s play area.

A large communal lounge room overlooking the gardens, equipped with a piano, television, DVD and stereo, encourages residents to socialise together or spend time with family and friends.

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, cabling for TV, phone and Wi-Fi services and ensuite bathrooms. Full laundry services are also available, along with the ability to cater for specialised diets.

As an industry leader in aged care, all Wesley Mission Queensland’s aged care communities follow the internationally recognised Eden Alternative™ Philosophy of care. This philosophy places the resident at the core of our work, while empowering and valuing staff, carers and families.  In keeping with this, Cooper House staff are passionate about empowering residents to make their own choices, building relationships and helping residents  live their lives with dignity and respect. They are committed to providing spontaneous and enjoyable activities and experiences for residents and their families.

Cooper House has a dedicated Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator who offer  residents  a myriad of exciting and new activities and events. These include: the annual Cooper House ball, concerts, exercise classes and regular cake and craft stalls. Visitors to Cooper House around the time of the Brisbane Ekka will see baby chickens hatching; aromatherapy and massage treatments, and concerts from school students.

A personal profile ensures all staff can respond to resident’s individual needs, including medical, cultural, religious and dietary. With 24-hour nursing staff on-site and a close relationship with our Allied Health Centre team, means staff can quickly respond to individual health needs in a holistic way.

Residents can enjoy all the services and benefits of being part of the wider Wheller Gardens community which include: a bowling green, library, hair salon, cafe, chapel, community hall and the co-located Wheller Gardens Day Therapy Centre.

This convenient location allows residents to immediately access therapy services such as; podiatry, speech pathology or physiotherapy without leaving their residence. This provides a streamlined approach for care, with allied health staff easily and confidentially able to communicate with nursing staff to tailor support to residents.

Wesley Mission Queensland - Cooper House Aged Care Community is opportunely located in easy walking distance to public transport, Westfield shopping centre, multiplex cinemas, restaurants and the Kedron-Wavell RSL and library hub. All Aboard for a Scenic Bus Adventure

on Thursday, August 10, 2017

It’s a bright sunny day as the Wesley Mission Queensland community bus pulls up outside Cooper House aged care community, at Wheller Gardens in Chermside. A few residents who are enjoying the morning sun in the foyer watch the driver get out and open the back of the bus, before he hurries over to the front door where those who are most eager are already making their way out. “Hello Frank,” they say with a smile, and Frank returns the greeting as he begins to help everyone on board for the day’s bus outing.
