Part of Bethanie
Bethanie Illawong in Hamilton Hill offers self care units and a hostel with glimpses of Cockburn Sound. This reflects the very appropriate name ‘Illawong’ which comes from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘a view of the water’.
Residents here live comfortably in a social environment and are just a short walk from local shops. They also have easy access to community and health care facilities to help and support them to live well.
The Lifestyle
The focus at Bethanie Illawong is on the residents. Within bright and comfortable surroundings, the team strives to provide exceptional care, remembering that this is our residents’ home. The team encourages daily living that is happy and fulfilling and that helps to make for a comfortable and secure retirement lifestyle.

90-year-old Robert Brittain is a long-term resident at Bethanie Illawong in Hamilton Hill. He initially occupied one of the 29 Independent Living Units, then, as a retiree, moved into the 39 bed Aged Care Home as his needs increased. But what makes Robert such a special resident is that some 30 years ago, he was the design architect of the entire Hamilton Hill site, a job he enjoyed and was very proud of.
Bethanie Illawong Aged Care Home cares for 39 residents and one adorable cat. Cherry the cat has been a permanent resident at the Hamilton Hill facility for 13 months, joining them as a rescue cat from the Cat Haven.
The staff of Bethanie Illawong, part of the Bethanie group, which is one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit aged care providers, were treated to a delicious curry lunch yesterday by one of their residents.
Bethanie, one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit aged care providers, organised a Glamour photo shoot for Bethanie Illawong residents to promote inner positivity and self worth. The idea came about from the abundance of beautiful photos of residents back from when they were young in their rooms, however there were none of them currently.
