Our Care finders help eligible older Australians access services and other relevant community supports. Their tasks include assisting eligible older people with their My Aged Care applications, providing guidance on services to apply for and more.
MC Care finders can assist Vietnamese speaking clients and carers living in South West Sydney region. Aside from our Care finder program, Multicultural Care also provides home care services to all seniors.
Patricia Burkitt has been receiving her Home Care Package (HCP) through Multicultural Care for almost a year. Initially hesitant to apply for assistance, she soon realised the vital role it plays in her life, especially after a fall and dealing with severe skin cancers and gout. At 93 years of age, Patricia acknowledges that she needs more help than she originally thought.
For Ambrose Lau, the decision to volunteer at Multicultural Care was driven by a desire to enhance his CV and gain practical work experience during the final year of studying social science. With previous experience as a marketing intern and research intern, he wanted a chance to explore his interests and discover true passions.
Greek-born Mr Trifon Kotsoris is 92-years-old and until recently was living independently with his much- loved wife. A few years ago, their son James moved from Melbourne to live close-by in a self-contained flat behind their home where he could more easily help them when needed.
Sadly, Mrs Kotsoris passed away in early 2022. Although there was some care in place to help James, Mr Kotsoris’s functional abilities were declining due to being less active and social. Despite the challenges, Mr Kotsoris and his family wanted him to remain living at home.
In the 1950s, thousands of Russians living in China immigrated to Australia, driven out on political grounds by Chairman Mao and the communist party. Galina Chadiloff, a Chinese-born Russian/Greek, and her family, were among those who re-settled in Australia, arriving in Brisbane in 1954 at 27 years of age.
Today, now aged 96, Mrs Chadiloff lives in a comfortable, light filled unit within a retirement village in Strathfield. Until recent years, she was fairly independent, with her daughter, Marina, helping her when needed.
A Home Care Package and support from Multicultural Care is helping Mr Hassan Kemal stay living at home while managing complex and debilitating medical conditions.
Seventy-three-year-old Abdel* has faced significant hardships throughout his life. Born in Syria, he immigrated to Sydney, Australia, in the early 70s. He worked as a motor mechanic and lived with his family. Unfortunately, due to unresolved family issues, Abdel found himself alone and homeless.
Support through Multicultural Care's EnCOMPASS and Care finder programs has helped Mrs Nada Jadroski access support services and connect with her community. Multicultural Care first reached out to Mrs Jadroski over the phone, before arranging to meet with the 71-year old in her home to discuss support services she may be eligible for.
Tanya’s volunteering journey began with Multicultural Care a few years ago when she joined the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme to be a companion to older people. The rewarding experience ignited a passion in Tanya for giving back to her community.
Over the past 14 years, Rouba has witnessed countless transformations at Multicultural Care, from new offices to a steadily growing workforce. As a Senior Bilingual Support Staff (BSS) team member, she has faced her share of challenges, but her commitment to serving the elderly in her community has never wavered.
