The genesis of Carinity was a meeting at City Tabernacle Baptist Church in Brisbane City in 1947, attended by people interested in establishing a Christian home for the aged.
A petition signed by 30 signatories was presented to the Baptist Union of Queensland. An accompanying letter outlined the plight of older Baptists living in Brisbane care homes for the elderly which were “filled to overflowing, and had long waiting lists.”
International Nurses Day is held each year on May 12, a global day of celebration marking the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. Like the famous nursing pioneer, Carinity nurses are selfless and dedicated to supporting people in need in their communities.
For seniors and their families, making the decision to transition from living independently to a residential aged care community is a significant milestone. Applying to live in aged care can seem quite daunting, but the introduction of Carinity’s new streamlined online applications is making the process easier.
Anne Bucetti believes being a volunteer in her local aged care community is “a win-win situation. I absolutely love volunteering in aged care. I hope I bring some happiness to the day of elderly people."
“It’s the most rewarding job I know. It’s hard work sometimes, but when you get a ‘thank you’ and a beautiful smile from someone, it just makes your day.” Camilla Lommerse is one of the many dedicated nurses who care for seniors in Carinity aged care communities and home services across Queensland.
“There’s a whole ethos about Carinity that’s just beyond measure – and the staff’s compassion is beyond compare.” Given four of her close family members previously lived in Carinity aged care communities, Patty Overend had no hesitation in considering Carinity when her husband Ray required higher care.
Pam Dalrymple plans to continue volunteering at one of her local aged care communities “as long as they’ll have me." The 79-year-old has been helping to support seniors living at the Carinity Clifford House residential aged care community at Wooloowin in Brisbane for 19 years.
A devoted former charity worker and avid dancer will celebrate her 100th birthday this weekend. Mary Ryan, who lives at the Carinity Clifford House aged care community in Wooloowin, will join the exclusive centenarian’s club on Sunday.

Alison Woodroffe has seen Brisbane grow from a small town with 218,000 people to the sprawling and bustling city it is today. To say that the new centenarian loves the neighbourhood she lives in is an understatement.
