Part of mecwacare
The mecwacare Barry Fenton Centre (formerly known as Bowen Street Centre) in Malvern East offers Planned Activity Groups, strength training, podiatry, day trips, activities for people with acquired brain injuries and a dementia support program. Services are offered to people over 65 years of age or who have a disability and are living in the City of Stonnington.
Planned Activity Groups
Planned Activity Groups provide daily opportunities for older people to connect with their community. This includes people with dementia and people with disabilities who can participate in a variety of engaging and rewarding programs and activities, both at our day centres and in the community.
Carer's support group
Join us for morning tea at the Barry Fenton Centre, and be part of our Cafe Club - a support group that understands how difficult the role of a carer can be. Come and share your experiences, exchange ideas, develop networks and be informed by guest speakers who will offer advice, valuable information and links to services.
Podiatry
Regular podiatry treatment helps maintain healthy feet which assists mobility and prevents falls. Our qualified podiatrist monitors clients with conditions such as diabetes, ulcers, peripheral vascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Social Support Holiday Program
mecwacare’s Social Support holiday program offers subsidised trips around Victoria for clients and their carers. The trips offer clients of varying ages and abilities an affordable holiday whilst maintaining the level of care they need, with 24-hour support from qualified and experienced staff.
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Group
Clients affected by an ABI who attend mecwacare’s Bowen Street Centre can attend specific events and programs organised and supervised by our qualified staff. These enjoyable and therapeutic activities also provide an opportunity for respite for client carers.
Dementia Support Program
mecwacare's dementia support program assists people with dementia in staying engaged, stimulated and connected to their local community. The program offers our clients outings, memory and sensory activities, meals and socialisation. These activities also provide respite for family members who act as primary carers.
