Located in Berri, Resthaven Riverland Community Services supports you to remain independent at home, working with you to develop a comprehensive support and wellness plan, home care, respite, and social support.
A wide range of flexible services are offered so that you are able to live independently at home. Support is delivered in your home by trained Resthaven home support workers, or at the Resthaven Riverland Community Services site.
Services are delivered in such a way that supports and respects your choices, independence, and privacy, providing peace of mind. You may choose to receive support with household tasks, home maintenance, shopping, social activities, keeping healthy, personal care and nursing care.
Jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane might not be everyone’s idea of a good time, but for Resthaven Riverland Community Services client, Mr Bruce Hoffmann, there’s no better way to celebrate your birthday. Turning 94 on 14 November, Bruce completed his 6th skydive on 23 November, this time taking to the skies with his daughter, Lori.
Peter Johnson, 74, has been attending Resthaven’s Riverland Community Services social group for the past few years, and says that it has been a great way for him to get out of the house and meet new people. ‘It’s something I always look forward to,’ Peter says of the group. ‘The staff do a fantastic job.’
After many years working as an occupational therapist across community and hospital settings, Charmaine Pfitzner was ready for more stability in her career, prompting her move to Resthaven.
Rushing through the streets of Adelaide in the middle of the night was all part of a day’s work for Miss Betty (Elizabeth) Leak, who celebrates her 100th birthday on February 11, 2024.
A client of Resthaven Riverland Community Services, and still living in her own home, Betty was a deaconess of the Uniting Church, working in the Women’s Welfare Department at the Kate Cocks Memorial Babies Home at Brighton from 1969 to 1975. An important part of her role was to transport women in labour from the home to the Queen Victoria Hospital.
Resthaven has launched a new government-funded program which aims to support older South Australians living with dementia to stay at home for as long as possible. The ‘Staying at Home in Regional South Australia’ program forms part of the Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, and aims to provide vital education and support to carers whilst their loved one is cared for in the same location by experienced staff.
On 28 March, Resthaven Riverland Community Services client, Mr Leslie ‘Les’ Voigt, celebrated his big 100. Growing up in Robertstown, in the mid-north of South Australia, on his father’s farm, Les developed his skills in handy work. "We had a mixed farm on 640 acres, so we had a lot to do each day," Les says.
Clients of Resthaven Riverland Community Services ended their week with the new Men’s Group’s very first session - ‘Puppers and Pizza’. Resthaven Riverland Community Services Assistant Manager, Gina Stephenson, saw the opportunity to bring along her four rescue dogs, Molly, Jake, Poppy and Ned, who clients constantly ask about.

Answering an advertisement more than 15 years ago entitled ‘Knitters Alert,’ 86-year-old Joan Barty of Loxton set out on a mission. It was no ordinary request for help; this was an urgent call to knit jumpers for newborn babies in South Africa who had been born with AIDS.
